This requisition will replace requisition # 61812.

The Epidemiologist will be integrated within the HIV Epidemiology and Surveillance and provide support to the Ryan White Part B Program by leading a project to share HIV viral load data with the States Medicaid program at TennCare and by developing solutions to integrate and improve the data quality for several data systems used for HIV surveillance, program eligibility and for tracking the delivery of HIV-related care and supportive services. This position will work out of the Central Office in Nashville within the HIV/STD/Viral Hepatitis Program, in the Communicable and Environmental Diseases and Emergency Preparedness (CEDEP) Division, reporting to the Ryan White Program Epidemiologist.

Candidates for this position should be detail-oriented, organized, able to multitask and prioritize, confident in managing projects, and able to self-direct on tasks. A significant part of this position is supporting central office TDH staff and developing or improving SAS code. Therefore, strong coding skills with SAS coupled with strong oral and written communication skills, a positive attitude, and the desire to collaborate with others is important. Additionally, interested candidates should demonstrate critical and systematic thinking to solve problems and innovate. This position is located in Nashville, but may require some out of state travel to meetings to support the viral load data sharing project.

Job responsibilities include:

Serve as lead and coordinator for project to share HIV viral load data with another state agency. Includes document development, assembling information for and submitting reports and invoices to funding agency, and providing analytic and programming (SAS) support.
Run code to improve data quality and integration, including making corrections in data systems for HIV surveillance, care and eligibility and to support perinatal HIV surveillance program.
Provide analytic support for internal and external data requests and support to other special projects, as needed.
Adhere to data security and confidentiality standards, including data suppression guidelines.

Required education and experience:

Candidates should hold a masters degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, or health

informatics from an accredited college or university. Candidates with work experience in applied epidemiology and/or public health surveillance are preferred.
