Description :

Employees in this job participate in and oversee the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of two-way radios, microwave systems, telephone systems, and other electronic communication, monitoring, and accessory equipment.

Radio Communications Technician 12
There are two distinct classification concepts at this level. In the first instance, the employee serves as the Network Communication Center Specialist (NCC) for the Michigan Public Safety Communication system (MPSCS). In the second instance, the employee serves as a staff specialist utilizing specialized technical knowledge in performing highly complex radio communication technician assignments involving authority for an assigned program. Staff specialist positions are one of a kind, have sole and full-time responsibility for an assigned program area, and are recognized by Civil Service.
Employees generally progress through this series to the experienced level based on satisfactory performance and possession of the required experience.
Installs, tests, repairs, and maintains base, mobile, and portable two way radios and accessory equipment.



NOTE:
Installs and maintains electronic surveillance and security systems.
Installs, repairs and maintains microwave radio and multiplex equipment, both analog and digital, and point to point communications systems.
Installs and maintains public address systems, radar equipment, earphone systems, intercom systems, electronic sirens, telephone systems, cellular phones, lighting stations, and other equipment and systems.
May operate and maintain mobile electronic service shop truck or other service vehicle. Modifies existing equipment to meet present needs.
Assists in the planning and designing of new installations, systems, and equipment. Checks frequencies and solves interference problems.
Provides technical expertise in the consideration of equipment and system needs and concerns. Repairs and maintains test equipment.
Periodically checks reliability of equipment.
Attends training and reads publications to remain current in electronic technology. Provides assistance to co-workers in specific situations.
Maintains logs and prepares reports. Maintains inventory of equipment and parts. Performs related work as assigned.

Education
Possession of an associate degree in electronic technology.

• Radio Communications Technician 8
• Radio Communications Technician 9
• One year of experience is equivalent to a Radio/Communications Technician 8. Radio Communications Technician E10
• Two years of experience equivalent to Radio/Communications Technician, including one year equivalent to a Radio/Communications Technician 9.
• Radio Communications Technician 11
• Three years of experience equivalent to a Radio/Communications Technician, including one year equivalent to a Radio/Communications Technician E10.
• Radio Communications Technician 12
• Four years of experience equivalent to a Radio/Communications Technician, including two years equivalent to a Radio/Communications Technician E10 or one year equivalent to a Radio/Communications Technician 11.
