DERSS is a critical application that processes electronic lab results from Delaware laboratories in near real time. Those results are analyzed by DPH epidemiologists. Results are recorded in DERSS and transmitted to the CDC in order to identify trends in disease and medical conditions in Delaware and nationwide. DPH epidemiologists use DERSS to detect outbreaks, target public health prevention programs and set priorities in disease research and medical training. This initiative is to customize and modernize DERSS with a primary focus on improving the user interface, data management, CDC interfacing, and reporting capabilities.
