Responsible for the technical design, planning, implementation, and the highest level of performance tuning and recovery procedures for mission critical enterprise systems. Serves as a technical expert in the area of system administration for complex operating systems. Recommends the redesign and configuration of operating systems and system applications. Investigates and analyzes feasibility of system requirements and develops system specifications. Identifies methods, solutions, and provides project leadership and management in order to provide a high level of service to the customers of the department. Functions: Manage the day-to-day operations of existing systems by monitoring performance, configuration, maintenance and repair. Ensures that records of system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained. Applies revisions to host system firmware and software. Works with vendors to assist support activities. Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems. Performs troubleshooting as required. Leads problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel. Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the companys disaster recovery and business continuity strategies. Design, test, implement and monitor servers, including database, e-mail, file/print, and backup servers and their associated hardware/software in the enterprise systems. Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records. Recommend and execute modifications to server environment in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance. Coordinate and collaborate with various Information Services departments to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of corporate servers to meet business demands. Develop strategies for server and related component implementations and architect the infrastructure required to support those strategies. Responsibilities: Assume primary responsibility for support and maintenance of multiple Tier 1 and Tier 2 incidents and projects. Adherence to established best practices for systems implementation, deployment, monitoring, housekeeping, security, disaster recovery, and backups. Manage assigned projects according to I/S project management methodology, procedures, and processes. Recommends moderately complex systems investment(s) to business users based on results of independent assessment of current and future performance, stability, and systems management/life cycle issues. Designs and develops moderately complex, integrated solutions to meet business requirements or enhance performance. Manage and maintain inventories related to systems: Maintenance/Service/Support Licensing Asset Management Software Systems Life Cycle Management Assist in developing and testing disaster recovery processes, trains staff and ensures compliance with disaster recovery plans for all supported systems. Performs vendor comparisons for projects to ensure cost-effective and efficient operations. Measures feasibility of various approaches and make recommendation(s). Analyze systems and take appropriate corrective action(s) to ensure systems performance and availability meet or exceed established service level standards.
