Job Description :

Application Operations Engineer

It Systems has an immediate need for an individual with application technical support experience to provide operations support and coordination of activities to a group of AWS and on premise applications. This position presents an excellent opportunity to work with application teams in support of our rapidly advancing cutting edge activities at AWS.

Candidates for this position must demonstrate they have the skills and experience to grow into this position over a 6 month period.

Following are the requirements for the position:

Experience providing support for Linux systems. This includes assisting application teams with assessing issues and troubleshooting deployments.
Experience providing support for Windows systems. This includes assisting application teams with assessing issues and troubleshooting deployments.
Basic database experience which should include executing SQL, and assisting application teams with connectivity and integration activities.
Knowledge of setup/provisioning of server environments for application purposes is helpful. Our environments range from traditional manual build to fully automated “infrastructure as code”. And while this position does not necessarily include the actual provisioning of servers, it does include working with teams to develop requirements and then submitting those requirements to build teams and following up until the servers are delivered. Experience with Tomcat and Apache a plus.
Experience with troubleshooting application related issues. This includes reviewing log files, application servers/services (i.e. Tomcat and Apache as examples), working with the network and security teams to troubleshoot connectivity issues and working with engineering teams for OS/platform issues.
AWS experience is required. We are rapidly expanding our application footprint in AWS. We are utilizing many services provided by AWS, and continuously evolving as AWS evolves. Having experience with AWS services, and supporting applications in AWS is important.
Systems integration experience desired. There are many integrated applications. This position will provide support to application teams for setup and troubleshooting of issues, as well as coordinating remediation of problems. This includes working with application and engineering teams, as well as users.
Scripting experience is required. We have a very mature automated deployment pipeline for deploying applications through their development lifecycles. Scripting technologies are utilized to support those activities. Some examples are Python and Perl.
Experience deploying applications is preferred, and experience with automated deployment tools is a plus.
Working with applications teams is crucial to this position. Success will be dependent on developing relations with multiple teams and their respective team members to deliver a good operational support experience.
Core hours for this position follow business hours. However, after hours and weekend support are expected based on project needs.
