Job Description Architect: Cognos Planning, Architect, Technical Skills, Software Systems Analyst

Description: 6 months + possible extension. Must be US Citizen due to data they will work on.
Cognos Architect position on the Enterprise Data Warehousing team.

Under limited supervision, the IT Architect participates in all aspects of application delivery. The IT Architect will work closely with the developers and other project team members on low to medium scale assignments of minimum to medium risk. The IT Architect will gather and analyze user requirements, generate conceptual design and develop implementation strategies. This position requires basic communication, problem-solving and leadership skills. This position also involves extensive interactions with business unit customers requiring the IT Architect to have a good mixture of business knowledge and technical skills.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Examine and evaluate current business processes and tasks, and develop ideas for improvement.
Convert knowledge and ideas into better ways of doing business or into new or improved products and services.
Participate in review, evaluation, and recommendation of new technologies.
Assist with the preparation of resource estimates, evaluations, and recommendations.
Identify, control and manage the impact of uncertain harmful technology events on the project and the project deliverables.
Use diagrams to help discover, communicate and understand the problem being solved and develop the software solution.
Use patterns as a fundamental structural organization schema for software systems.
Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behavior and support the Companys Corporate Compliance Policy.
Understand and support the policies, values, principles, structure and behavior of AEP.
Ensures alignment to AEPs supported technology stack with all provided solutions.
Promote continuous improvement within the project team.

This position is for a Cognos Architect (not a developer).

Working independently, the IT Reporting Designer/Architect Lead will identify, clarify, resolve and initiate reporting solutions to complex problems that may be unique to the project, process, or organizational unit and require extensive specialized knowledge. These projects will typically be of high risk and high visibility. Responsibilities include analyzing requirements for business process and technology strategy alignment.

The Cognos Reporting Designer/Architect Lead is recognized as the technical and strategic reporting expert and leads the creation of dashboards with actionable insights. Effective visualization and presentation of KPIs/Metrics is a key skill needed for this position.

This position requires expert communication, problem-solving and leadership skills. Also required is an excellent mixture of technical and business skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.

Principal Accountabilities:
1. Examine and evaluate current business needs, and develops effective reporting solutions.
2. Convert knowledge and ideas into new or improved ways of presenting and consuming data to get effective actionable insights.
3. Review, evaluate, and recommend optimal ways for finding meaning insights by using effective visualization and other features like drill down/through, etc.
4. Ensures alignment to AEPs supported technology stack with all provided solutions.
5. Use diagrams and mock ups components to help discover, communicate and understand the problem being solved and develop the software solution.
6. Formulate actions and processes to support the defined short and long term goals and objectives of the business unit and organization.
7. Prepare resource estimates, evaluations, and recommendations.
8. Promote continuous improvement within the project team.
