ATSPM was initially built in 2014 and has since gone through various iterations on its architectural framework. Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures are a series of visual aids that display the high-resolution data from signal controllers. They are a valuable asset management tool, aiding personnel in the control of both signal hardware and signal operations. They allow analysis of data collected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. we are seeking a team to support make the following changes to the current system. • Add additional performance metrics • Optimize existing performance metrics • Add additional configuration options • Modernize the architectural framework • Enhance data aggregation • Integrate features submitted by the ATSPM community • Troubleshoot operational issues and perform bug fix maintenance • Improve the system architectural Scope of Work: The current ATSPM system has dozens of performance metrics. New algorithms are regularly being developed. The ideal candidate team will be required to: • Transform the algorithms into code • Update and improve backend table systems • Create user interface to display the results • Implement changes to datasets while following the existing coding standards. • Update or implement performance enhancing changes to better utilize the resources available or to meet new standards developed by UDOT • Test and validate results • Evaluates measures for usefulness by Traffic Engineers who work with Traffic Signal Operations • Develop new measures and algorithms to enhance the system The ATSPM system has an extensive configuration system built into the UI. This project will require the development team to: • Update to support new configuration options • Implement requirements for new measures into configuration • Continue improving the maintainability and performance of the system architectural • Recommendand implement changes to the system architectural The ATSPM system stores many terabytes of data. For some performance measures to work data is aggregated by performance metric. In order to support this the development team shall have familiarity: • ETL, and data warehousing techniques • Table and field management systems • Traffic operations for correct data aggregation UDOT ATSPM is an open-source software and has a large user community. On occasion UDOTs partners make upgrades or bug fixes to the system and submit pull requests. To support those pull requests the candidate team must have an extensive working knowledge of the existing system and be able to knowledgeably review and merge those requests. On occasion the ATSPM system may have operational issues due to the various installations across the country as well as in Utah. In order to make sure that DOTs can continue to utilize their installations of ATSPM it may be required to investigate issues that arise. This will require an expert level of familiarity with the system in order to resolve these issues. As bugs are discovered they need to be resolved and tested. Team Qualifications: UDOT is looking for a development team that has a proven track record of innovative ideas and collaboration within UDOTs ATSPM system. The team should consist of at minimum both software developers and traffic engineers that have experience working together with UDOT to develop, plan and implement ATSPM concepts.
