We are looking for a Contract Senior UX Design Researcher for our Safety & Industrial Business Group to enhance the design function at our Design Center, located in St. Paul, MN.. The Contract Senior UX Design Researcher will work on existing projects for our division partners within the Safety & Industrial Business Group. You will primarily be responsible for identifying and synthesizing customer needs, both observed and verbalized to be consumed by your team and project stakeholders. Working alongside other UX designers in a highly collaborative environment, you must be able to juggle multiple concurrent projects, work under time constraints and execute projects with minimal supervision. Qualifications: -Able to put together a detailed research plan based on stakeholder and design teams goals. -Has a tool belt of research methods, for generative and evaluative. Able to creatively adapt them to achieve goals within constraints. -Able and willingness to travel 20%. -Able to communicate design thinking process and guide stakeholders through a user-centered approach. -Goal and process oriented. Thoughtful and organized. Able to handle multiple projects at once. Achiever-mentality. -Eagerness to learn and keep up to date with best research practices. -Able to build and maintain good relationships with stakeholders. -Able to synthesize and present findings with impactful and actionable storytelling. -Knack with words and storytelling is a plus. -Work with designers to translate insights to designs. -Experience in survey design is a plus. -Enjoy and have talent for connecting dots and laying out logical strategies to solve complicated challenges. -Able to proactively communicate progress updates, work with minimal supervision but ask for help when needed. -Willingness to travel. -Photography skills a bonus. -Be responsible for own projects and support in other tactical aspects -Visual design skills and an eye for aesthetics Please attach a file or include a link to a non-confidential portfolio of design work along with your application. Basic Qualifications: A Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited university in Human Computer Interaction (HCI), anthropology, psychology, sociology, design or design research. Minimum of 3 combined years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, researcher or UX strategist with experiences in designing solutions for desktop, web and mobile applications on variety platforms. Preferred Qualifications: M.S. in design strategy, interaction design, Human Computer Interaction or a related field or equivalent practical experience. 5-8 years of experience as UX practitioner (e.g. UX strategist, researcher, UX designer, interactions designer) Experience with creating web-based products, mobile applications for iOS and Android. Proficient with design research techniques to understand the customer (e.g., ethnographic research, contextual inquiry, concept testing, usability testing, card sorting) Experience working collaboratively with other product managers and engineers in a variety of settings and strong communication skills with the ability to articulate positions and advocate designs Minimal work direction needed, highly skilled and knowledgeable to the position and provides best practice sharing within work group.
