Depends on product – some are up and running and have backlog in place – in that situation, want them to use data for how to prioritize Other products that are brand new and there is limited backlog Responsible for 1 product and 1 Scrum team 2 week sprints Typically is a BA on scrum team but they have varying of degree of capability Called a Product Developer, but they treat them like a PO – have a product they look over – Kali then comes with strategy – there is a level between Kali and these PO – those folks have 4-5 POs each D2D: Lots of different audiences – ability to change approach and message depending on audience Share requirements and translate into systems needs Understand end user, articulate and visualize for scrum team Write user stories for user acceptance testing Define acceptance criteria Run test scripts themselves – based on UAT script Put together a thoughtful, easy to consume documentation for leaders that are not technical Influence and ownership of backlog Roadmap example of these POs fit in: Kali will come in and say we need to figure out a solution to reduce drop off rate of job offers – then they will go and research and say we have this drop off rate but when I look at hiring process end to end, I see these other things that are pain point – can then tie to dollar amount thats impacting company Kali sets high level strategy – then they take that to the product/space they own and what will that mean Experience/background: Some that has worked in Agile/Scrum environment 1-1.5 years+ in a role like this (product owner, product management, etc.) In an ideal world, love some people who has built something from scratch for an external audience – benchmark and research Look beyond at art of possible – draw and research Design thinking is huge Technical delivery owners/managers – owns the roadmap for a tech product that isnt technical would fit nicely here Use Jira and Microsoft teams Someone that is effective at running user feedback sessions – they do this now, but Kali feels as they go through motions and have a tendency to lead subjects where they want them to go Soft skills: Kalis team has really strong personalities who demand ownership. For example, have to draw line in sand with end user that a feature isnt going to be realistic or hold the tech team accountable that this isnt what we agreed to build. Have to be bad guy at times but do it in a thoughtful way as Walmart culture is family-friendly and highly-respectful. People from start-ups struggled with rigidness of corporate environment. Have flexibility but not same as start-up. Important if have someone that is a technologies and is passionate about remaining a technologist – would NOT like this role – they dont own the tech stack and they sit in the business, so if someone wants true ownership of tech stack, they wont be a fit.
