Paperwork process takes 3-4 weeks and candidates must be able to wait after accepting] Purpose: Provide expert support of vendor network monitoring software (specifically SMC/Torrus) in a UNIX and Windows environment. Provide software, hardware and applications support. This includes installing, testing, implementing and maintaining vendor software releases, maintaining the associated hardware, and creating scripts to support new tools and services. Activities: · Install, test, implement and maintain vendor application software releases. Specifically SMC/Torrus software used for network monitoring. This includes the installation, testing, and integration of periodic vendor enhancements, patches and upgrades. · Maintain, develop, document and debug: UNIX shell scripts; Perl, Bash, Korn scripts; and SQL database. · Provide performance analysis, tuning and recommendations for the performance management software specifically SMC/Torrus software, especially drraw and rrdtool. · Analyze and support monitoring of LAN/Wide Area Network (WAN) devices including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless devices, load balancers and perform Management Information Base (MIB) walks and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) configuration. · Provide Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and LAN network configuration support in an Ethernet environment. · Provide Level 3 problem determination support. This includes debugging scripts, opening cases with hardware or software vendor and looking at diagnostic tools for hardware, software and capacity related problems. · Research, develop and test new performance management software. · Support Special Projects related to the SMC when members of other teams require special SMC monitoring of any requested routers, switches, and load balancers. Such requests include monitoring devices at a rate faster than the usual 15 minutes, and monitoring of a specific device or an interface that is not automatically discovered and monitored. · Document problem resolution, software updates, configuration, and operational procedures in order to perform knowledge transfer to SSA personnel on related software. · Maintenance of UNIX server and operating systems and software as secondary support of UNIX administrator including support of multi-pathing (High Availability). · Maintenance of Windows server and operating system as secondary support of administrator. · Work independently and as part of a team to identify users needs and present findings and recommendations.
