In this role, you will design and develop returnable and expendable packaging for individual piece parts and large finished components shipping to ensure the timely and efficient receipt and delivery of material. Proper packaging design includes part containment, protection, and optimization of transportation and other supply chain functions. Responsibilities: This position will manage projects to reduce total cost associated with packaging design. The focus will be on capturing current state packaging specifications, identifying improvements, working with packaging designers to redesign, and implementing improvements. This is a project management role that will require working with purchasing, transportation, external suppliers, supply chain managers, and manufacturing operations. An understanding of packaging and/or material properties is preferred. Candidate must have excellent communication skills and customer focus. Ability to manage projects, communicate effectively, and respond quickly to customer requests is critical. Develop packaging solutions to protect finished painted components Design for transport efficiency Perform containerization analysis Validate new packaging and containers during pilot development – final phase Coordinate with assembly planning for line-side storage and ergonomic considerations Resolve safety and / or quality issues caused by current packaging Resolve issues reported by 3PL or carriers Develop, communicate and maintain supplier packaging requirements Customers include facility supply chain and logistics employees, plant operations supervisors and line employees, factory engineering, and other supply chain functional areas. External contacts include global vendors. Education Requirements: Bachelor of Science in Packaging, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering. Packaging Engineering Technology, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering Technology or Industrial Technology degrees also considered. Technical Skills: A minimum of 2 years of supply chain, packaging operations, and manufacturing experience. Additionally, will be looking for candidates that have 2 – 5 years in an engineering related position.
