The role is responsible for supporting the Application Operations team with effective monitoring and event management solutions. The system administrator will be part of the Application Operations team charged with implementing infrastructure and application layer monitoring within MassDOT. This role will be a key member of IT application monitoring project. The purpose of this project is to analyze and understand DOT-ITs existing monitoring tools with the intent to implement basic application monitoring and propose recommendations to address gaps in existing tools. The main responsibilities and duties of the monitoring system administrator are to: • Implement efficient event management processes and automation; • Configure and administrate monitoring platforms including: SCOM, Redgate and Solarwinds; • Perform daily health checks and break/fix support on monitoring platforms; • Manage new technology integrations into monitoring systems; • Participate in the governance of application and infrastructure monitoring design, implementation, customization and support; • Implement dashboard/console solutions to consolidate views of service events for support staff; • Review event logging and historical repositories to aid in the investigation and prevention of incidents, problems and service quality issues; • Provide filtering and event correlation mechanisms to reduce event noise; • Grow the technical skillset of everyone, including his/her peers though peer mentoring, coaching, training, etc. • Recommend the establishment or modification of current policies and standards where applicable; • Improve continuous integration and delivery systems; • Act as a subject matter expert for all things related to proactive application monitoring Application Operations team; • Provide production support to monitoring platforms as needed; • Keep up to date with new IT Operations trends and technologies; • Carry out all other related tasks. Qualifications: Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field. Relevant experience: • 5+ years of experience in IT with at least 3 years in a large scale enterprise environment • 3+ years of experience managing monitoring solutions, NOC experience a plus • 1+ years of experience administrating DevOps system • Application and end-user experience monitoring preferred • Expert knowledge interfacing with the infrastructure applications support teams for application profiling and underlying architecture (technology stack, workflow, etc.). • Ability to interface with the application owners via user center design principles for obtaining key transactions to monitor • Ability to conceptually grasp an applications process flow and architecture without direct access to source code.
