They deploy infrastructure specifically to provide internet connectivity/access for all AWS customers, as well as carry traffic between Amazon sites. The team is responsible for capacity planning, budgeting, using standardized designs and implementing those designs to meet the forecast need. ***These contractors will be part of the deployment team. They will have a smaller but still important set of responsibilities. They wont be putting the projects together or do any capacity planning. They will do work to increase the capacity on existing devices by installing line cards, doing device upgrades, adding links to existing lags, turning up circuits, etc. The contractors will be assigned to an engineer who manages a project and then they will do the day to day repeatable tasks to keep things going. **Schedule is standard 9-5 for the most part, can do 8-5 with hour lunch if needed. Sometimes they will need to be flexible however, and observe the maintenance windows. Sometimes theyll get a specific project that cant start until 2pm, so theyll need to stay until 10pm. On those days, they can come in later to avoid overtime. ***The managers goal is to convert these contractors. The duration is 6 months initially but will likely extend to 9. During that extension, they will evaluate conversion prospects. As a Network Engineer working within AWS Infrastructure you will: Be responsible for deploying network infrastructure across all of our network fabrics that supports the Amazon Retail Service, Kindle, Payments and multiple AWS services. Deploy, scale and automate our network across multiple global datacenters. This includes existing footprints and greenfield locations. Drive scaling of current network designs to meet the demand of our customers. Create simple, repetitive deployment processes that increase both velocity and quality. Work closely with our internal customers on designs/solutions; bringing those designs/solutions from concept to production. Create and update our network standards and ensure that the network is deployed to these standards. Create and implement changes on the network. Work closely with our automation teams in defining the tools that allow us to scale at unprecedented volume. Our ideal candidate is highly autonomous, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, strong project management and time management skills and has a successful track record of designing simple, scalable solutions and troubleshooting complex network problems and delivering innovative solutions. The desire and ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment is essential. Basic Qualifications A Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience is required. Candidates should have 2+ years industry experience in a similar environment. Excellent IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in the application and troubleshooting of IP protocols. Excellent TCP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in the application and troubleshooting of TCP.
