This is a new request to work on upcoming deliverables for existing projects. The expertise needed for these project deliverables is not expertise that exists in the organization currently, or the expertise is already tasked with providing similar deliverables to other projects. Without these new resources, potential failure to fulfill deliverables and/or reach payment milestones required by existing contracts. Job Description: Role and Responsibilities The Linux Solutions Architect is responsible for computing infrastructure implementation from an overall architectural, engineering, and operations standpoint. Expertise requirements include strong Linux/UNIX OS, network design (hardware, services and security), server capacity planning (web, application and database) and storage solutions. Key responsibilities Collaboration with customers to design and implement highly available, disaster resilient systems infrastructure architecture. Design, review, and implement standards, processes, operating procedures, and consistently applies these standards. Leading the technical review of the product RFIs/RFPs, recommending solutions and participating in the technical negotiations. Proficiency creating infrastructure diagrams and presentation or infrastructure proposals to both technical and non-technical customers. Provide 3rd level engineering support for customer facing and internal systems Lead and guide both customer and internal teams in the understanding of technical implementation, documentation, and processes. Will perform research and development including requirements analysis, technology maturity assessment, alignment and traceability, and recommended technological improvements of current and future technologies (e.g., innovation). Lead/Mentor all personnel involved in IT services such as functional systems administration, processes, troubleshooting, technical design, and technical implementation of multiple implementations. Ability to manage and execute multiple infrastructure projects requiring collaboration with multiple teams, while ensuring a common implementation approach. Basic Qualifications Minimum 5 years experience designing, implementing, and managing complex infrastructures Minimum 8 years experience with the following: o Linux configuration and systems administration, using distributions such as Red Hat, CentOS, Oracle, Suse and Debian. o Capacity planning, including the sizing of servers, supporting storage and network infrastructure. o Configuring and managing storage area networks, network attached storage and/or big data solutions. o High availability and disaster recovery planning, including the use of backup software, failover systems, load balancers, clusters (application and database) and link balancers. o System management including the use of help desk software and management tools such as Nagios, Whatsup Gold, Hardcat, Spiceworks and Jira. o Understanding of web servers, application services and database management systems, such as Apache, IBM WebSphere, IBM DB/2 and Oracle, and their operational characteristics. o Understanding of the software development process and life cycle.
