ADDITIONAL SPECIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) plans to hire an experienced, senior level Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to provide support and maintenance of an existing online system, called SPORT or MassOutdoors. The DBA will be expected to support all aspects of the system, including front end forms, reports, and back end database. The selected candidate will resolve help desk tickets, satisfy ad-hoc database queries, and perform database software maintenance and general bug resolution and troubleshooting. Required Work Experience: • Expert level knowledge and hands-on experience (at least 5 years) maintaining Oracle 10g databases • Knowledge of Oracle database architecture (components and processes of the database) for Oracle 10g • Extensive knowledge of Oracle packages, triggers, and stored procedures • Knowledge of and experience with PL\SQL programming • J2EE experience including (but not limited to) JSP (and HTML), • Experience with Oracle reports • Experience writing moderate to complex SQL queries • Experience developing in an environment requiring high availability and short deadlines • Hands-on experience supporting Oracle 10g (SUN UNIX/Solaris operating system) database, application, and infrastructure servers • Experience with Oracle backup and recovery techniques using VERITAS software. • Experience dealing with all levels of users is preferred. Required Skills and Attributes: • Advanced SQL query skills • Exceptional debugging and analytical skills • Ability to take direction and work to specified deadlines • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication skills. • Ability to pursue tasks with a minimum of supervision and deliver quality work on time. • Strong understanding of the requirements associated with an online database supporting transactional applications. • A degree in computer science is a plus. Responsibilities: • Ensure that the SPORT/MassOutdoors database is operational and available for business transactions • Perform research and analysis for problem resolution and bug fixes • Perform database and performance analysis and to make tuning changes • Review and fine tune scripts, stored procedures, functions, and triggers related to bug fixes before releasing to production • Ensure the database is running at optimum levels and that the data involved is secure and accurate • Ensure backups are made on a regular basis, all system changes are documented and all database code is managed in the source code system. SPORT Technical Environment: The SPORT/MassOutdoors system supports online (external) as well as in office (internal) transactions related to the registration and renewal of boats, off-highway vehicles, snowmobiles, and ATV vehicles. Customers can renew registrations and pay fees over the web, via PayPal. The SPORT/MassOutdoors system operates on 5 dedicated SUN Solaris servers. Four servers are behind the fire wall and serve the 1) Development Application, 2) Development Database, 3) Production Oracle Reports, and 4) Production database environments, while a 5th SUN server is established in a DMZ as the Production Application Server.
