Description :

This role is in support of Application Hosting Services and will have the primary responsibility for all activities related to Database administration in a 24x7 regulated environment at an SME Level. This role will interact with multiple internal and partner groups for DBA activities.
Database administration responsibilities will include: installation, upgrades and optimization, backup/recovery, access control administration, database vendor contract administration, disaster recovery support, development and test environment support, documentation, and infrastructure and methodologies improvements. Monitors database performance and seeks opportunities for tuning and improvement. Consults with and advises users on various database issues and works with internal and external teams. Projects, plans and implements long-range requirements for database administration and design. Co-ordinates the database administration functions for both development and production environments and includes Application and System support.

Responsibilities :

* Implement & configure Oracle software ((DBMS, Oracle Tools, Oracle Web, networking softwares (e.g. SQLNET, Oracle Names))
* Implement & configure DB appropriate to business requirements (OLTP, decision support, standby DB, replication)
* Set up Database tools and scripts to proactively monitors databases and send alerts to enable the DBAs to reduce outages
* Create and generate various database reports to help plan for capacity and performance.
* Investigates and resolves technical database issues.
* Performs analysis and determination of database performance characteristics, data relationships and attributes, data flow and storage requirements, and data output and reporting capabilities for multiple applications. Recommends and implements SQL tuning opportunities to improve system response and run times.
* Defines logical attributes and data inter-relationships and designs data structures to accommodate database implementation, storage, maintenance and accessibility to enhance performance.
* Develops and documents standards, procedures, work instructions for database support that help in increased productivity for operations.
Optimizes database accessibility by developing load balancing architectures and processes to eliminate down time for backup processes.
* Implements and supports database security regulations, policies, and guidelines. Monitors security bulletins to obtain information of potential threats; installs necessary security patches to ensure ongoing database security.
* Functions as a technical project leader or provides work leadership for less experienced personnel on a portfolio of databases, including installations and upgrades of DBMS software and backup/recovery strategies. Reviews and approves application and database design decisions to ensure that application solutions exhibit high levels of performance, security, scalability, maintainability, and reliability upon deployment.
* As need be, manage and develop team members/partners
* Serve as the primary interface for the business to interact with all IS services
* Identify and remove barriers by working with internal and external stakeholders
* Prioritize workload in accordance with goals
* Accountable for all audit and security compliance issues (Amgen & government regulations).
* Create Scripts within SQL and unix
Participate in Root Cause Analysis reviews when applicable.
* Rotational 24x7 On-Call Support

Required Skills :

* Masters degree & 3 years of database administrator experience

* Bachelors degree & 5 years of database administrator experience

* Associates degree & 10 years of database administrator experience
OR
* High school diploma / GE
