The consultant will serve two days per week and will lead and collaborate with delivery teams in designing and implementing network solutions to better position Connecticut Department of Labor (DOL) pre and post modernization. The consultant must be able to work closely in a team environment with our technology staff and Department of Administration Services, Bureau of Enterprise Systems and Technology (DAS/BEST). The consultant will perform a network discovery assessment and will provide options, best practices, recommendations, and implementation techniques for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. The consultant must have excellent written and oral communication skills and needs to have advanced to expert level of knowledge in all aspects of networking technology. Role Requirements Work with DOL Staff to: Perform a network discovery assessment Elicit business/technical requirements Recommend and implement Business Continuity and/or DR solutions. Plan, design, implement, and test solution/architecture Install, configure, test, and upgrade network components and Checkpoint firewall Create and troubleshoot network architecture and make recommendations for system fixes and enhancements based on best practices Secure and manage network infrastructures to protect productivity, mitigate threats, and reduce costs Coordinate Enterprise solutions with DAS/BEST technical staff Implement CIS critical controls Monitor, detect, and execute problem isolation and resolution throughout the network infrastructure Utilize network monitoring tools Supports the research and evaluation of new network topologies, infrastructure Document, train, and transition the support of any work done to DOL IT employees Recommended Knowledge Expert level of knowledge in all aspects of networking in all aspects of networking technology with extensive background in routers, switches, sniffers, firewalls, wireless, SAN, cabling and other essential network hardware/tools. Deep understanding of TCP/IP networks in datacenters and across wide area networks. Ability to provide technical solutions, determine overall design direction and provide recommendations for network issues. Passion for improving and challenging the status-quo. Must have excellent listening, oral and written communications Experience in Cisco, Juniper, Checkpoint, DNS, DHCP, Microsoft Productivity Suite, Visio, Change Management processes, and System Development Methodologies (SDMs). 15 yrs exp Troubleshooting, repair, construction or support of hardware, networking, and software system. Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures. Experience with one or more commercial infrastructure products. Tactical and strategic technology planning. May have advanced subject-matter expertise in one or more commercial infrastructure products. Has advanced knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures and is able to assist the PE in improving its practices. Is able to complete assignments and exercise a certain degree of creativity and latitude when unexpected situation arise.
