The RFP will be for a Sr Linux Administrator with the formal requirements attached, but this is what I need in your candidates in a more candid form: Technically sound in the setup, configuration and troubleshooting of Red Hat Linux 5.x and 6.x and some experience with other Unix flavors (preferably HP-UX, but Unix is Unix.) Understands storage and SAN configurations enough to troubleshoot problems related to Linux blades, boot from SAN and multipathing as well as replicated storage HP blade chassis experience. I mean real experience working on them, not just giving me the information from the HP website. Experience with Red Hat Satellite or other automation tools and experience with any LDAP adapter to AD from Linux Ability to document and create new processes and procedures to drive efficiencies by thinking out of the box Real experience with VMWare ESX. Our environment will be 80%+ virtual in the next year, this is critical. Note that this is an operational position, I dont want resumes for engineers, project managers, analysts or people who have NOT been in the operational role managing a Linux environment within the last 6 months. The candidate must be okay working when we need them (daytime, evenings, weekends, etc). This candidate will provide technical guidance for the team and work with our engineering division on roll-out of new initiatives. They will be part of a fast paced team and will need to pick things up fast and provide value back to us very quickly to be successful as we are in the midst of our data center migration. This is a 13 month contract until 12/31/14 with possibility of extension, but thats never a guarantee, they need to be okay with that. Ill be doing phone screens Monday or Tuesday afternoon so have your TOP candidates to me ASAP with cutoff at Friday end of day, hopefully the RFP will be out by then. You can ignore the dates they give you in the RFP as thats just a formality. Im looking to do on-site interviews next week so that they can start as soon as I can get the person NERC cleared (well worry about Nuclear later).
