The PO has a significant role in quality control and is the primary team member empowered to accept when stories are completed by the software development team. This role has significant relationships and responsibilities outside the local team, including working with Product Management, who is responsible for the Program Backlog, to prepare for the Program Increment (PI) Planning meeting. Responsibilities for this position will include the following: X Preparation and Participation in quarterly planning events. As a member of the Product Management team, this role is heavily involved in program backlog refinement and prep for quarterly planning events and also plays a significant role in the planning event itself. X During the planning event, this person is involved with story definition, providing the clarifications necessary to assist the team with their story estimates and sequencing. X Maintaining the team backlog V This person will seek input from key stakeholders and has the primary responsibility for building, editing, and maintaining stories in the team backlog. Consisting mostly of user stories, it also includes defects and enablers. Backlog items are prioritized based on user value, time, and other team dependencies determined in the quarterly planning event. X Iteration Planning V This person also reviews and reprioritizes the team backlog as part of the prep work for Iteration Planning, including coordination of dependencies with other teams. X Accepting stories V This person is the team member who can accept stories from the development team as they are completed. This includes validation that the story meets acceptance criteria and has the appropriate acceptance tests, and it complies with all requirements, which insures quality. X Participate in team demo and retrospective V As the person responsible for requirements, POs have an essential role in the team demo, reviewing and accepting stories. They also participate in the Iteration Retrospective, where the teams gather to improve their processes. Additional Information: User Experience (UX) skills a plus. (Voice of the Customer, Ethnographic research, Usability testing, Requirements elicitation, etc). Graphic design or other visualization skills needed. Customer facing experience or demonstration of capability needed. Ensure that product quality and design are in keeping with Organizations long term vision X Skillset o Elicit requirements from Stakeholders / Customers voices o Ability to take requirement and write detailed stories for development teams to Execute on o Teamwork o Coaching o Leadership V (Cannot let the Dev teams steam roll them V need to know enough when the teams are building something too complicated or are saying dev times are too high) o Ability to create and evaluate test plans o Organization V Working on several features with in a 12 week dev cycle, breaking them down into stories, keeping team on track based on committed timelines. Other Requirements X Education: Bachelors in Computer Science, telecommunications, or similar X Experience V 5+ years of working as a Business Analyst, electrical engineer, or a role that focuses on eliciting Requirements from Stakeholders / Customers and being able to transfer those voices into Detailed Requirements.
