Monitoring Analyst

Functional Job Overview
The Distributed Monitoring Analyst performs monitoring and escalation of alerts from Windows Server systems.

Candidate and Job Summary
Ideal candidate must be a team player, detail oriented with strong follow through-capabilities, dependable and able to handle rapidly changing priorities with a positive attitude with great flexibility. The candidate will work in a 7x24 first-responder team performing monitoring, validation and escalations of Microsoft Server and Application alerts within specified SLA times.

Job Requirements, Duties & Responsibilities
• Monitor Windows Server operations: server hardware, applications and processing
• Monitor, review and respond to alerts from automated system monitors
• Opens, updates, closes and monitors Remedy Trouble Tickets within the SLA
• Complete Daily Check Sheets
• Other duties as assigned to meet business requirements

Fundamental Process Skills
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize and resolve urgent issues
• Utilize process skills with high attention to detail
• Ability to follow documented procedures during system failures
• Ability to follow daily system checklists
• Escalates to both internal and external sources to expedite resolution of issue
• Ability to follow and understand all standards, processes, procedures and policies


Technical Skills / Knowledge
• Familiarity with a variety of system management tools and programs that could include one or more of the following:
o CA monitoring tools preferred (Spectrum)
o Microsoft MOM / SCOM
o HP SiteScope
o Windows event monitoring applications
• Fundamental knowledge of:
o Microsoft Windows XP or higher
o Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or higher
o File Transmissions (FTP)
o Remedy
• Knowledge of Microsoft applications: Office, Visio, Access & SharePoint
• Basic understanding of networking principles

Communication Skills
• Utilize interpersonal and communication skills for working with customers
• Ability to provide on-call engineers critical information in a clear, concise and quick manner
Required Experience
• 1-2 years experience in a 7/24/365 network operations center
• 1+ years of hands-on experience in a Microsoft environment

Work Schedule
• Nonexempt position
• Shifts are comprised of 4 – 10 hour shifts / 30 minute lunch / 40 hours per week
• Minimal Overtime
• Current shifts:
o Shift 1: Sunday thru Wednesday 6:00am – 4:30pm
o Shift 2: Sunday thru Wednesday 1:00pm – 11:30pm
o Shift 3: Wednesday thru Saturday 6:00am – 4:30pm
o Shift 4: Wednesday thru Saturday 1:00pm – 11:30pm
o Shift 5: N/A
o Shift 6: NA
• Ability to work shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays
• Shifts may be rotated and reassigned as needed to meet business requirements

Education Requirements
• A High School Diploma is required; Associates degree or higher in data processing or equivalent preferred
• Certifications
