Participate in rotational support of the UNIX environments: Take turn with on-call rotation. Provide daily support to users via the trouble ticket process. Troubleshoot technical issues. Install patches and updates to maintain overall environment. Effectively utilize existing automation technologies to manage roll-out of system changes. 50% Assigned Technical Projects: Work with other departments to implement their solutions using Company standards; participate in meetings, analysis, discussions with other departments to provide advice, consultation, and plans for some of their technology roadmaps with an emphasis on UNIX/Linux systems solutions, virtualization, and automation. Work with teammates, other Company units, campuses, and other departmental personnel on a broad range of projects including disaster recovery, improved virtualization, and enhanced automation technologies. Perform operating system upgrades, research, project plan, implementation and support. Experience with storage technologies including SAN, NAS, iSCSI. Document procedures, topologies. Install equipment as required. Required Experience: BSCS Degree and eight (8) or more years of experience with programming/ systems analysis, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with planning the long-range goals and objectives of technical operations projects to fulfill broad service goals of the larger organization. Demonstrated ability to envision, design, communicate, and develop strategies to achieve a fully built-out framework, and the demonstrated ability to develop effective methodologies for implementing such strategies. Proven technical expertise on the architectures associated with Linux operating systems including system administration, hardware and software configuration, TCP/IP communications and security, and utility software. Significant demonstrated experience with VMware virtualization Proven ability to implement plans based on best practices and to conduct disaster recovery for the UNIX systems environment to restore services to users. Demonstrated ability to perform competently under pressure and handle interruptions and change without losing productivity. Excellent oral communications skills demonstrating the ability to convey and explain information and to tactfully deal with diverse people, situations, and ideas. Excellent written communications demonstrating the ability to draft clear, concise specifications, documentation, and reports. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills as demonstrated by a professional demeanor, the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisor and colleagues, and provide, independently and as part of a team, technical support in a rapidly changing environment. Preferred Experience: Technical expertise with the SuSE and RedHat Linux operating system, to include system administration, hardware and software configuration, networking, security, and utility software. Experience with AIX and Solaris. Experience with HA technologies, including Veritas Cluster Server and IBM HACMP. Experience with TSM or other enterprise backup solution. Experience with virtual tape library technologies. Experience with Site Recovery Manager in providing disaster recovery capability.
