The network engineer position is in the Technology Delivery Services team which is responsible for the planning, design, development, installation, and maintenance of communication networks. Supports UCOP data network and services including data centers, cloud network services, wide area/metro area/local area networks. The incumbent manages operational reliability and performance of existing buildings and wide-area networks and quickly resolves any network service interruptions that occur. As required by business changes, the incumbent may also extend and enhance the UCOP networks. Responsible for executing backlogged items such as Cisco VPN upgrade and decommissioning, Uplogix deployment and maintenance, reclaiming IP space, and significant hardware/software maintenance. Required Qualifications Minimum of 6 years relevant experience. Strong skills in Cisco operating systems, problem solving, change management, VPN configuration, Cisco ISE, LAN, WLAN, VSS, Cisco ASA/ASA-SM, WAF, Citrix, InfoBlox, Cisco VOIP, Cisco UCS, and cable management. In-depth, advanced understanding of various network hardware platforms, network related protocols and software including understanding of OSI layer 2 and 3 IP/TCP protocols at a complex level and related technical standards critical to the operation of interconnected networks. Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively convey and explain technical information to non-technical customers and to draft clear and concise technical specifications. Responsible for complex network issue determination and resolution. Troubleshoots highly complex issues in network systems software and distribution and access electronics. Works directly with vendor/manufacturer technical support to isolate and resolve highly complex hardware and software issues. Advanced knowledge of the practices and techniques of the voice and data field and the ability to determine a course of action based on guidelines. Demonstrates the ability to operate under general direction, develop creative solutions to problems and tackle issues in a self-motivated manner in line with the direction of the team and the organization.
