The Linux team provides technical services to include: systems design, planning, hardware/software installation, operations, maintenance, and upgrades to Linux systems and infrastructure components which support the companys daily operating business functions. Linux team primary focus areas: Linux Systems Engineering: Technical Services related to the system architectural design for Linux OS environment, enterprise wide system standards and operating policies. Linux Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery: Technical Services supporting backup and restore of data, business continuity methods and policies, system High availability and Disaster Recovery strategy and testing. Linux Systems Operations: Technical Services providing proactive monitoring of Linux systems environment and problem resolution, user support, system application support, Operating System support, hardware/software system installation, configuration and maintenance. Linux Systems Documentation, Procurement and Contract: Technical Services supporting the procurement of cost effective and efficient Linux hardware/software systems, maintenance of support contracts and maintaining Linux environment documentation including standard operating procedures. Responsibilities: Deploy and provision Linux systems using VMware vcenter or vSphere Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. Configure Linux systems with Tivoli, Splunk, NetBackup and other middleware products Automate normal, repetitive system administration tasks Create/maintain documentation of application environments (diagrams, procedures, etc.) Provide intermediate-level systems administration functions for Linux environment (UNIX, AIX), including project planning assistance, systems design and engineering assistance, performance management, security auditing, and capacity planning. Maintain core systems on the Linux platform Ensures that computer systems and operating systems are compliant with established configuration guidelines and work with the Manager, Infrastructure in establishing policies on system use and services Provides technical expertise in planning, investigation, prototyping, testing, implementation and operation phases for the integration of services, systems and applications within a network of multi-platform clients and servers Tests and configure platform applications Diagnosis hardware and software problems, recommends solutions, and performs necessary system repairs Planning assistance of the future of the operating system environment Works with management in the development of related strategies and business models Provides on-call support for problem resolution IBM AIX, Redhat Linux. & Sun Solaris 10 systems administration Heavy use of Shell scripting languages and/or Perl/PHP scripting experience. Qualifications/Skill set: BA/BS in Computer Science or related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience 10 years of experience building, configuring and maintaining a Linux environment 5 years of experience building and managing load-balanced web server clusters with Apache, Virtual Hosting, and/or other web server related products 5 years of virtualization experience with hypervisors (VMware products preferred) 5 years of experience in computer system evaluation, integration, installation, operational administration and support 10 years of experience with scripting languages.
