The scope of this program is College-wide and includes information in electronic, print and other formats. The Information Security Assistant is to assure that the information created, acquired or maintained by GGC, and its authorized users, is applied in correspondence for its intended purpose. This position is to protect GGCs information and infrastructure from external or internal threats and to assure that GGC complies with statutory and regulatory standards regarding information confidentiality, integrity, and availability. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Plans, coordinates and implements network security for hardware and software. Creates documentation on network and processes performed daily. Works with support teams to ensure proper security is included in workstation, servers and devices baselines. Maintains applications and/or virus protection measures. Monitors network performance and makes adjustments, corrections and/or changes as necessary. Works with network and infrastructure team to solve any security related problems or make adjustments and/or improvements as needed. Applies the highest level technical skill and expertise or project/team leadership to highly complex projects and problems of the greatest importance to the security area. Demonstrates exceptional expertise in information technology, security, detailed knowledge of industry trends and regulatory mandates. Conducts Technical Security Assessments, such as the following: vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, Application Assessments, Wireless Assessments, Security Assessment, Authorizations and Network Security Assessments Assists team members in implementing a comprehensive risk assessment. Tracks industry and higher education developments and best practices to maintain a thorough understanding of current and future directions, systems, applications, and data security techniques for instructional, research and administrative needs. Assumes responsibility of implementation of information security policies and for ensuring effective IT risk management and compliance across the college; recommend enhancements in information security policy to college leaders; coordinates campus-wide initiatives for governance and security. Keeps abreast of the latest security and privacy legislation, regulations, advisories, alerts and vulnerabilities pertaining to the GGC and its mission. Takes part in Campus Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity planning in support of emergency preparedness. Performs other duties as assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Information Security, Business Administration, or a related field Six months to one year of experience with Qualys, various scanning and network monitoring tools, knowledge of auditing, information security and regulatory standards best practices as well as assessment methodologies. Knowledge of Security Incident and Event Management practices and solutions. Knowledge of layer 2 and 3 routing protocols. Knowledge of firewall technology. Excellent planning, organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills as well as time management skills. Must have excellent customer service skills.
