This position is dedicated to providing operational support of the departments server environments. This support includes technologies such as Windows Server OS, HP-UX, Linux, VMWare, Citrix XenApps, Data Storage Systems, Cloud solutions, and application support. Support and systems administration consists of configuring daily production activities including: problem & change management, performance monitoring, managing data recovery requests, and consulting activities. This role coordinates and consults with other IT areas within the Departments Bureau of Information Technology (BITS) and the Department of Administrations Division of Enterprise Technology (DET) support units, DOT applications development units, staff, other State agencies, and vendors. This position works in tandem with DET who provides and supports the hardware that hosts our physical servers and storage. Duties for this position include development, implementation and administration of Server Operating Systems and storage management systems for all physical and virtual Microsoft Servers in all DOT divisions. This role serves as an internal consultant and provides guidance and direction to senior project leaders, application developers and managers for all DOT server-based systems. This position serves as one of the primary support positions responsible for maintenance and overall operations of the server infrastructure for the department and assists with application support staff to resolve issues with IT servers, storage and backup. Installs new software releases, system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches and resolves software related problems. Performs system backups and recovery. Maintains data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
