Includes maintenance of database administration tools, database dictionaries, overall monitoring of standards and procedures, and integration of systems through database design. Job Description Performs the duties of a Database Administrator. Provides technical expertise and performs implementations, upgrades, and use of database software, including utilities, administrative tools, job scheduling, and scripting. Creates and schedules batch jobs. Writes scripts to accomplish administrative processing. Utilizes administrative tools to change, troubleshoot, and fix the database and data-related environments. Proactively performs capacity management, including forecasting for space, memory, processors, and backup media. Directly participates with Systems Administration for hardware capacity growth assessment and deployments. Ensures licensing compliance is maintained. Performs physical database design and construction according to best practices and business requirements. This includes performance tuning for queries and databases, balanced against proper decisions concerning normalization/denormalization. Understands database logical modeling. Performs redundancy management according to Data Governance standards, including implementation, upgrades, and use of replication software products and tools. Manages data according to retention requirements and policies. Safeguards data integrity, access, and availability according to security procedures and policies, and Data Governance best practices. Ensures compliance with corporate policy for security and privacy as they impact database access and privileges. Ensures data integrity best practices are used to ensure referential integrity, completeness, accuracy of database contents. Ensures environmental security and monitoring mechanisms are performing properly to ensure availability of the data to end users and applications. Ensures business continuity with appropriate backup and recovery processes, failover, procedures, and testing to ensure point in time recovery for avoiding all types of data loss, including major catastrophic disaster. Ensures all backup and recovery processes and procedures are kept current, in alignment with production physical data environments and for adjustments indicated necessary as a result form business continuity tests. Ensures all necessary backup and recovery processes and procedures are immediately available via the DBA vault location in the event of a disaster situation. Supports entire database environment, knows the expertise of peer team members to identify whose skills are needed to assist, and provides support and guidance to DBAs in a timely manner to support the service levels required by the business. Communicates business and technical information and developments to users, technical staff, and management in both verbal and written form.
