The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and intimately familiar with VMWare, Solaris and Linux internals, and have proficiency supporting Unix servers. Day-to-day responsibilities include: Evaluating new & emerging technologies, including review and authoring testplans, test execution, performance data collection and analysis, employing a scientific yet business-based approach to evaluation criteria. Participating as a key contributor on cross-functional projects (supporting business or infrastructure projects through a variety of systems administrator tasks, such as: configuring systems, installing software, analyzing system designs & performance bottlenecks, providing guidance in technical meetings, researching architectural issues, providing status updates and attending project meetings). Assessing resource utilization to troubleshoot and performance tune systems. Automation of provisioning and maintainance of a large environment using a variety of vendor and custom infrastructure APIs. Addressing provisioning, decommissioning, configuration and break/fix for Sun, HP, IBM, NetApp, Hitachi & other hardware. On-call rotational responsibilities accompany this role. Job Requirements: The highly qualified candidate will have the following experience and behaviors: Minimum six years Unix Systems Administration experience with an emphasis on Current expertise with Veritas Cluster Server, Veritas Foundation Suite (VxVM, VxFS) or Solstice Volume Manager (SVM) in a storage area network (SAN) environment. Solaris ZFS and Linux LVM/MD experience a plus. Proficiency with common Unix System administration tools. Proven troubleshooting skills and ability to understand complex relationships between components of multi-tiered, distributed network applications, encompassing all layers of the OSI model. Experience supporting high-availability, fault-tolerant systems in a dynamic environment. Broad knowledge of common applications and technologies in Internet computing (web servers, proxies, load balancers, databases, appliances, client/server, etc). Knowledge of host-based and network security tools and techniques a plus. At least one year of experience working with managed network switches (Cisco, Netgear, etc) in an environment with multiple subnets, including strong understanding of networking basics. Exhibits leadership qualities and strong procedural and architectural documentation skills. Flexible, adaptable, and able to autonomously manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Learns quickly. Excellent communication and relationship skills, especially the ability to articulate advanced technical topics (i.e. - process scheduling, disk and filesystem I/O, kernel internals, TCP/IP communications, machine architectures) and business issues/concerns with peers, management and vendors. Monitoring software (Nagios, Cacti, Tivoli) and datacenter experience a plus. Collaborative team-player with a positive, can-do attitude.
