Job Description: Job Title: Database Operations Engineer Employment Type: Contract Client: State of Rhode Island City: Providence State: RI Duration: 12+ months Database Operations Engineer This role of the Database Operations Engineer will be to manage multiple DLT databases, maintain the integrity and security of the systems, and troubleshoot any issues on behalf of the users. The Database Operations Engineer will act as a liaison between the DLT Performance Management Team and the RI Division of Information Technology to coordinate and facilitate IT related projects. Responsibilities: • Analyze and recommend and implement database changes and improvements • Periodically perform tests, error checks and data validation to preserve the validity and accuracy of the data • Backup and restore data and implement backup and recovery plan • Configure database software and deploy system updates • Ensure databases run efficiently • Ensure application programming interfaces (API) are functioning correctly • Modify databases to specific user requirements • Manage database security permissions and access • Work closely with program team to develop technical solutions to address programmatic issues. • Design queries • Develop database design and architecture documentation for the management and executive teams Education Requirements: • Three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Related Skills: • Thorough knowledge of SQL • Experience with API connectivity needed • Someone who can read and troubleshoot JSON • Knowledge of AWS Cloud Platform a plus • Experience with AWS Glue, Athena, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, Lake Formation, IAM and QuickSight a plus • Proven work experience as a Data Architect, Database Administrator, Data Scientist, Data Analyst or similar role • Amazon Web Services and cloud architecture, including virtual private networking, serverless computing, content delivery networks, Web application firewalls, identity management and authentication, object storage • Javascript and web development in React.js • R, python and experience with data processing pipelines • Linux (although the system could be ported to Windows in the future) • Knowledge of security best practices • Data Engineering skills such as database optimization, ETL processes, data exploration and visualization, Power BI?   Call 502-379-4456 Ext 100 for more details.
