Description : Optimization Project Manager II Background - Wisconsin Public Media (WPM) is a Division within the University of Wisconsin Madison. WPM is home to two state-wide services, PBS Wisconsin and Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR). WPR has approximately 140 full-time staff. This position would be working on the implementation phase of WPRs optimization project, which is an organization-wide initiative that will lead to changes in our programming, technologies, member, and revenue strategies, digital content, and so much more. A planning and recommendation phase for this has already been completed and this role will lead the implementation initiative.. The project sponsor will be the Director of WPR, along with the Executive Director of WPM. Research - Starting in October 2021, the optimization process has thus far been a year of thoughtful research, consultation and planning. WPR developed a list of operational priorities, then planning efforts began. In March 2022 working groups were formed around broadcast and digital components of optimization. In June 2022, recommendations were sent to leadership and in October after feedback and revisions final decisions were made on the recommendations. Planning - Two planning teams were created: a Program Planning Team and a Member and Revenue Growth Team. The Program Planning Team is charged with developing a menu of programming options for our optimized networks. The Member and Revenue Growth Team will identify ways to leverage our planned changes to retain and build membership and new support from major donors and business sponsors. Both groups work will be informed by the new research, existing research, and industry best practices. Recommendation - Optimization will include substantial changes to our existing networks, reassigning network stations, re-energizing and re-investing in regional bureaus, redesigning and enhancing wpr.org, and expanding our digital service. Implementation - WPR is now about to take the planning, research, and recommendations and move into implementation. WPR needs a full-time project manager to ensure the implementation moves forward and meets the goals. The implementation projects will impact all of the units in the department: Administration, Development (membership), Content, Music/Arts, News, Digital, Marketing, Engineering, Operations, and Bureaus in the Regions around the state. Examples of some of the work that will need to be done: creating new shows, developing new workflows, retiring shows, organizational changes, hiring new staff, improving existing/legacy workflows, website changes, engaging with key vendors who are helping with various parts of the projects, communication plans both internally and external (audiences, donors, etc.), etc. It will be critical for the project manager to be skilled in collaboration, communication, facilitation, and documentation. External stakeholders - There are also a number of trusted, external subject matter experts involved in implementation. A firm was awarded the RFP for the website redesign, a marketing agency was hired to assist with audience and market analysis, and a digital marketing agency was hired to help with the digital/social presence.
