The Division of Mitigation Services seeks assistance troubleshooting, developing and editing Python scripts that execute automated modeling workflows. DMS is in the process updating its process used to prioritize watersheds for restoration. In accordance with the 2008 Federal Mitigation Rule, DMS is shifting to a spatial model that analyzes, compares, and ranks watersheds to identify areas where optimal gains in ecological function are most likely. DMS contracted with UNC and Duke University to develop the modeling processes. The final deliverable of this contract was sophisticated spatial model that executes via ESRI Model Builder and leverages the use of data services, python scripts, python modules, and third party java executables. The scripts and sub-models are annotated, include developer comments, and are documented within a user manual. This work product is created from three modular sub-models and was intended to be updated and edited to reflect updated/emerging datasets and better scientific understanding.
