The system is used by internal support staff, by BCD vessel inspectors, and by Insurance company vessel inspectors. Currently scannable paper inspection reports are created, filled out by inspectors, returned to the office, and used by office staff to record inspection results into the Vessel system. However, the scanning software is not accurately capturing inspection records; accordingly, support staff is required to manually enter inspection results into the Vessel system. BCD would like to develop a solution to replace the scannable inspection reports. The solution would allow inspectors to search, review and organize boiler information and inspection due dates via the internet. It would also allow inspectors to enter inspection results directly into the Vessel system via the internet. Because insurance inspectors work for companies that have their own databases, BCD would also like to develop a solution that would allow the insurance companies to upload inspection data through electronic file transfers. Data validation must be added to the above fields to match the Vessel System data edits to ensure data integrity before information can be stored into the Vessel System. Also, note that delete capabilities are not allowed and will require the inspector to contact the BCD office staff to accomplish on their behalf.
