Job Description Engineer: Linux System Administrator, Linux Security And Administration, DNS, Oracle

Description:

The Linux Engineer will provide architectural and implementation best practices for the companys Linux platforms to ensure maximum performance, reliability and security for its enterprise applications and sites. The Linux Engineer will be responsible for implementing, tuning, and maintaining the Linux platforms for mission-critical enterprise applications and e-commerce sites such as web farm, Oracle EBS environments, Oracle BI, Oracle RAC, Oracle/AquaLogic Enterprise Service Bus, and the Liferay platform. Performance, system uptime, security, capacity planning and scalability are primary objectives to deliver highly available applications and sites for the business.

Tasks & Activities
Responsible for providing daily operations support and maintenance for the companys expanding farm of Red Hat Enterprise Linux based servers.
Performing technical support and administration for Linux-based web farms and enterprise applications.
Provide stable operating platforms for Oracle enterprise applications, including Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle SOA Suite/BPEL, Oracle BI, Oracle RAC, Oracle Grid Control, Oracle/AquaLogic Service Bus Clusters.
Provide stable operating platforms for LAMP and Liferay environments (Apache, MySQL, JBoss).
Manage and maintain Operating System patches in compliance with vendor recommendations and best practices.
Design and implement high availability solutions on the Linux platform.
Create shell scripts for automation of deployment (RPM) and backup, scheduled jobs and monitoring.
Collaborate with Infrastructure and Engineering teams to design and deliver OS platforms according to schedule; deploy web, application and database software.
Manage Entitlement licenses for Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Maintain corporate infrastructure security standards for Red Hat Enterprise Linux; ensure data and database security at server level; employ security hardening techniques especially for Internet facing systems.
Regularly review system logs and OS behavior to proactively monitor systems and address issues accordingly.
Creating and maintaining technical and detailed design documentation for all Linux environments.
Work closely with application teams for day to day support issues, break/fix issues, and scheduled maintenance.
Evaluate, recommend and implement Enterprise Monitoring system for Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Manage and configure LUNs presented by EMC storage administrators.
Requirements
At least 7-10 years of experience working in an IT corporate environment, with at least 5 years as an enterprise-level Linux System Administrator.
B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or comparable experience.
Extensive Linux administration experience, including RedHat AS/ES and Linux security hardening.
Expert knowledge supporting LAMP architectures, DNS, Oracle environments.
Strong experience using automation and installation tools (i.e. KickStart, Puppet, Cobbler, Spacewalk).
Hands-on experience implementing and supporting high volume MySQL transaction environments.
Strong Java EE application server experience (WebLogic, Oracle AS, JBoss).
Strong Apache experience.
Demonstrated experience tuning and optimizing Linux environments, capacity planning for HA, and other typical enterprise level deployment activities.
Experience supporting mission critical, 24x7x365, high availability, high volume operational environments.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Works well in a collaborative environment, as well as independently.
Able to resolve IT issues and escalations in a timely manner (appropriate sense of urgency).
Able to perform on-call duties and after-hours work as necessary.
