Summary: The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) is working on a comprehensive modernization initiative to replace our legacy systems, referred to as the Utah Schools Information Management System (USIMS). Working for the USBE is a rare opportunity to use a combination of the latest technologies, best-of-breed software packages and custom development to deploy a refreshed code base and associated reporting applications and reports. We are looking for an experienced System Administrator to join our team. In this position, you will serve as the development and production DBA. To be a successful candidate, you will need to understand how to maximize scalability, performance, recoverability and maintainability; analyze and solve problems; and have the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people in various roles. Responsibilities: Contribute to creating a scalable, maintainable and usable database environment to support software development efforts and application requirements Contribute to the automation of database change management processes Translate logical data models into a physical database implementation Work in cooperation with the development teams to provide tools to facilitate database testing and data refresh Mentor development teams on the proper methods for efficient data access and modification logic in software systems Support the application of source code management for versioning, impact analysis, testing and promotion of database code Develop a Disaster Recovery Plan to recover from database failure with minimal data loss and downtime Monitor database performance and provide recommendations and resolutions for identified issues for development, test and production environments Maintain the integrity of database environment through change management, automated backups, recovery processes and security audits Ensure data is appropriately secured such that only the required users have access Build reporting structures as data warehouse or data lakes What the USBE agrees to do: The USBE PD Coordinator will direct all work of the vendor. The USBE PD Coordinator will approve and sign weekly timesheets. The USBE PD Coordinator will provide the vendor with an annual evaluation of the vendors effectiveness in implementing the contracts scope of work. Resources may have access to sensitive data, including student personally identifiable information (PII). Accordingly, resources must comply with applicable security measures, including possibly mandatory background and security checks. In addition to the terms of State of Utah Contract #IT2462, this engagement shall also be governed by the following terms and conditions regarding student data privacy. GENERAL PROVISIONS: USBE reserves all right, title, and interest, including all intellectual property and proprietary rights, in and to system data, Data, and all related data and content. Contractor is hereby designated as an agent of USBE for the limited purpose of receiving PII to fulfill the purposes of this contract. Contractor may use the PII as provided herein but may not transfer or otherwise convey PII to any other person, persons or entities.
