The position role provides an effective interface with business customers (e.g.: non-IT program staff and managers) and applies direction and leadership to other professional IS/GIS staff deployed in program, agency and/or enterprise project work. This includes providing advice, assistance and serving as the primary liaison contact coordinating and consulting on geospatial systems development and formulating business requirements related to strategic plans and technical work plans that identify and incorporate information technology outcomes. Assisting in project planning and preparing high level business status reports for management are also functions of this position responsibility. A wide degree of creativity and self-motivation in job performance is expected.” Working title: Geospatial Business Analyst National Estuarine Research Reserves- Future of Site Profiles project Job summary: The National Estuarine Research Reserve System is a network of 29 coastal sites designated to conduct research, education, outreach, and stewardship on coastal systems. Reserves are a partnership program between NOAA and the coastal states. Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve, part of the University of Wisconsin Madison Division of Extension, is located in Superior, WI. The Heeia National Estuarine Research Reserve in Kaneohe, HI is part of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. This project provides geospatial expertise and creative web design support that allows the two Reserves to complete a required component of their designation. Project description: A Site Profile is a required product for every Reserve in the National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) system. Per NOAA guidelines, a Reserve Site Profile contains orienting information and a summary of scientific information for prospective academic, agency and management partners. Traditionally, the Site Profile product has assumed the form of a static physical book or PDF compilation that is not updated. Examples of existing site profiles for the NERRS can be found here. However, technology has opened the door to novel methods of organizing technical information, making it accessible to users through an intuitive interface that can be updated over time. Examples of existing relevant websites that integrate maps, data and storytelling include the PacIOOS site or the St. Louis River Estuary Science and Stories site. This project seeks to develop two Site Profile models, for the Lake Superior and Heeia NERRs, in a dynamic online platform that allows Reserves to synthesize technical information, biocultural narratives, media, and data into a digital collection that is interactive, spatially organized, and easily navigable by end users.
