Support the VMware environment including activities such as provisioning, maintenance & troubleshooting. Perform ongoing maintenance, such as service pack installations, hot fixes and software upgrades. Have a general knowledge of server technologies, and network and enterprise storage technologies. Participate in the implementation of agreed upon solutions and strategies. Serve as a primary technical contact on projects, as assigned. Troubleshoot technical issues, using various internal and external resources. Document technical problems, resolutions, and processes for assigned tasks and projects. Experience following formal procedures for change and incident management. Participate in on-call rotation, ability to provide 24x7 production support Someone that can do 2nd shift and weekend work Strong understanding of networking, infrastructure and client side architectures, software lifecycle, and system design. Strong understanding of the IBM / HP Server platform. Hands on experience with the implementation/integration and support of a VMWare vSphere environment. Working knowledge of enterprise deployment strategies (Kickstart, WinPE, Ghost). Working knowledge of VM provisioning (Windows and Linux VMs). Working knowledge in RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or SuSE Enterprise Linux (SLES). Working knowledge in conducting performance analysis of physical and virtual servers, including CPU, Memory and I/O utilization. Working knowledge of Enterprise NAS/SAN technologies and Volume Manager technologies. Working knowledge of virtual desktop (VDI) technologies is a plus. Excellent scripting skills, experience with Perl and/or shell. Powershell or other scripting abilities are desired. Experience with system configuration/management tools (CFengine/Puppet/Chef/RHN) is a plus. Ability to create System Run Books, defining day-to-day support, maintenance, troubleshooting knowledge base. Excellent analytical skills and the ability to apply them towards the investigation of existing installations. Ability to establish best practices for monitoring and forecasting of system/application capacity. Must be able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent skills necessary in Word, Excel, Presentation and Visio. Strong understanding of project management methodologies and processes. Excellent time management and organizational skills.
