Please note this is not a Hadoop development role OVERVIEW: Position requires both project work with a new cluster, an existing cluster and supporting an internal user base. A strong knowledge of Hadoop and Linux. This role will work closely with Systems Administration team and Quantitative Research team. Communicating fixes and improvements with these teams is part of the core responsibilities. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: * Configure a test Hadoop environment based on the Hortonworks distribution for CentOS 7 with Kerberos ACLs enabled * Perform a rolling upgrade of an existing custom Hadoop cluster to a more recent distribution * Support users in constructing C++ and python applications to interface with Hadoop * Identify and improve sub-optimal system configurations * Tune Yarn scheduler configuration to meet a set of internal requirements * Perform cluster troubleshooting and resource optimization * Diagnose critical system problems and issues * Write or document existing tools to support Hadoop administrative tasks that are not provided by the Ambari web UI * Communicate and work with external parties, including Hortonworks support, as needed to address framework failures to meet business needs REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: * Minimum of 2 years of experience with Hadoop systems on CentOS, RHEL or RHEL derivative platforms * Minimum of 5 years of systems administration related responsibilities on Linux systems * Knowledge of Kerberos and SSL certificates for identity based authentication and authorization * Demonstrable experience with UNIX shell * Demonstrable experience with Python * Knowledge of version and revision control practices and procedures using git * Excellent communication skills, both written and oral * Results oriented, highly flexible, team player Contract: 3 month initial engagement with the possibility of extension.   Call 502-379-4456 Ext 100 for more details.
