Responsibilities includes improvements of database integrity through quality assurance and manages change control processes related the SQL environment. Additional responsibilities include analyzing existing database applications for performance tuning, alerting & monitoring, working with application developers to integrate efforts with relational databases, participate in team or company projects as required, maintain state-of-the-art knowledge of existing best practices in database administration, design, and implementation, capacity planning and provides on-call support. Specialized knowledge, skills, abilities o Excellent communication (spoken and written) skills o Experience supporting/administering MS SQL in an enterprise environment o Ability to develop and troubleshoot change scripts as needed o Maintain the health of the production,(and/or lower region) environments o Experience with backup processes & procedures o The ability to document standard operational procedures o Assimilate organizational objectives into operational action plans o Knowledge and experience with capacity planning as it pertains to databases o Work with the application team to fully understand the Fiserv Data Center environment o Work on documenting areas that need to be addressed o Provide 24 X 7 production database support to help resolve production and application related issues (Sev 1/Sev 2) o Understand and utilize the Change Management process o Work with the team to understand how backups work o Monitor the SQL production environment o Participate in Disaster Recovery exercises (if available remotely) o Perform updates/changes during maintenance windows o Understand current capacity issues and the capacity planning processes o Work with team to review change requests o Participate in software deployments Education: 4-year degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience 5-7 years of I/T work experience. Including at least 4+ years experience in database administration Demonstrated accountability for change and incident management; maintenance of the operating system and SQL databases, including patches and upgrades. Able to create, maintain and enhance support documentation. Special Training Needs ITIL, Quest LiteSpeed, Quest Performance Analysis, BMC Remedy, Alarm Point, ETG Change Management, ETG Escalation Processes Competencies/Traits desired Strong knowledge of MS SQL and how to tune it in a highly specialized fast paced, 7X24 operation environment.
