This will include working on new systems and solutions or enhancing existing systems within the oil transaction pipe. Much of the server side work will primarily be using Java enterprise, while the client side work will be a combination of .NET based Windows solutions, and Excel based VBA solutions. This role will have a reporting line to the Head of Oil Front Office Physical Operations. The Operations technology team is cross-functional (includes trading operators, business change, architects, developers and QA), and are based out of multiple locations. Key Accountabilities: Design and develop systems for the Trading Operations commercial team in Oil America. This team deal with crude and product scheduling across the American continents, and is a fast moving and dynamic organisation with constant requirements for systems development. This commercial team consists of about 80 users, with requirements for technology work. We use C# for desktop development, and Java for server side development. On mobile devices, we deliver to Windows Phone, Android, and Apple devices. You are expected to be conversant with all these technologies and be a guru in at least two of these technologies. Contribute to the full SDLC, including analysis, design, development, testing, and maintenance of the system, business processes, data and interfaces. Own the Trading Operations technology development in Chicago. There are systems already live, one of the primary ones being the Core Scheduling Tool (CST). This system has about 1MLOC and is used by about 900 users throughout the world. Work with the commercial teams to ensure that the system is fit for purpose. Essential Criteria: Exceptional development skills in core Java/JEE and .NET/C# Strong understanding of programming paradigms such as distributed architectures, clustering and multi-threaded program design. Experience of working in brownfield sites, where the work requires creating new solutions within an existing array of highly integrated systems. Desirable Criteria: Exceptional development experience of working with service orientation, and related technologies, like SOAP, JWS, JSON, etc. Exceptional knowledge of relational database technologies, like Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle RDBMS, and related Java technologies, like JDBC, Hibernate, JPA, etc. Experience in continuous delivery and related technologies, like continuous integration (with tools like Cruise/Jenkins), unit testing (with tools like JUnit, Clover/Cobertura, etc.), testing automation and behaviour driven development (with JBehave or similar) and automated deployment (with tools like BladeLogic or similar). Familiarity with non-relational data storage technologies, especially those dealing with big data, like Riak, HBase, etc. Familiarity with working with mobile technologies, spread across different platforms, like IOS and Android. Strong analytical and numerical skills, ideally with a numerate degree Familiarity with Excel, including macros.
