Candidate must be local : Yes Job Description : Sr. Systems Engineer Starbucks 1 Year Contract As a Sr. Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, operational support, and reliability of Internet-based and in store systems. On an on-going basis, this position will help identify root causes of operational issues and partner with other team members to drive resolution. This role will be also responsible for planning and execution of work within the Starbucks Retail Technology team. As a member of our team, you will drive a major platform upgrade. It will require you to design, build, and run services in our datacenters. You will need to plan and scope work for yourself and other engineers. Your experience at scale will drive you to automate all things. You will be data driven in pursuit of reliability. Most importantly, you will build relationships and exceed expectations. Story Behind the Need – Business Group & Key Projects Supports back-end infrastructure to the retail stores focusing on Symphony – upgrading from current version to the next version and sustaining that product, what do you need to build? Load balancing? What will the network look like? How does that fit into automation? 3 partners on this team focused on symphony so this CW will be on call 1 week as theyll be the 4th person supporting On call isnt very loud for us, mostly 9-5pm work Duration: a year Hours: core business hours and 1 week on call, 3 weeks off Typical Day: Production Support • Provides 24*7 global support of critical systems in a rotating on-call environment • Contributes to process / system documentation in Confluence and GitHub • Understands and leverages debugging, profiling, and monitoring tools as well as creative problem solving. • Provides support to product teams for environment builds, refreshes, and break-fix issues • Leads investigation of root cause analysis for incidents • Collaboration with other technical service teams to manage, maintain, and resolve complex IT services Solution Design • Understands agile / Kanban methodology and develops the flexibility to adapt to evolving business requirements and priorities • Actively participates in design sessions, team planning, and backlog grooming • Knowledgeable about established design patterns and technical specification documentation relative to the platform • Ability to influence others to collaborate towards a single design • Able to implement agreed upon design in alignment with business or app needs Leadership • Manages personal intake, workflow, and status through Jira; provides regular transparent status, risk, and communications • Participates in researching, authoring, and creating technical presentations and demos • Excellent communicator with proven track record negotiating within team, and across organization • Receptive and responsive to coaching and guidance from leaders and more experienced engineers.
