FACE TO FACE INTERVIEW IS REQUIRED. Under general supervision, maintains the network operating, management, and modeling software systems and hardware used to connect communications between all City of Detroit mainframes, servers, and client computer systems. This position requires consultant with good virtualization experience and some Storage experience as well. This is a DATA CENTER CONSOLIDATION project. Three years (3) of recent, experience in Server administration with IBM/Aix, Linux and Microsoft Server, including the management and support of multiple complex Server environments that deploy server virtualization using VMware and IBM vitalization software. MAJOR JOB DUTIES: 1. Evaluates Enterprise server systems and hardware and determines compatibility with City of Detroit computing environment. 2. Designs, the city of Detroits server infrastructure and makes recommendations to the Infrastructure Manager, ITS Deputy Director and Director. 3. Evaluates, recommends, installs and test Enterprise software application like Email, Directory services and virus software.. 4. Works with City of Detroit application administrators, Database administrators and Network Administrators to determine issues with server and application performance. 5. Works with the Network team to analyze, configure, and modify network addressing schemes. 6. Designs and supports Internet access and security. 7. Designs training and assignment framework for personnel assisting in server management activities. 8. Administers subsystems generating server statistics. 9. Recommends procedures and policies. 10. Assists in the preparation and implementation of new procedures and policies. 11. Monitors servers for consistency, accuracy, availability, and capacity planning. 12. Provides server support to user agencies. 13. Presents information and data on server status and functionality. 14. Maintains Enterprise server hardware. 15. Maintains the City of Detroits DNS and DHCP environment. KNOWLEDGE OF: Mechanics and operations of information technology equipment in a large information systems environment. Standard operating systems, communication protocols, and circuits. Network cabling and standards. Data communication equipment such as modems, routers, hubs, and switches. Voice communication equipment such as PBX, CBX, Centrex, and ACD. Information technology management principles and practices. Network operating systems such as Windows NT, NetWare and Unix. Communication protocols such as TCP/IP, Ethernet, ISDN, ATM, Sonet, and SNMP. Work flow languages. SKILL IN: Developing, planning and implementing operational plans and methods. Identifying and resolving technical problems. ABILITY TO: Coordinate and supervise employees a large group of technical employees. Effectively communicate with departmental employees and customers. Bachelors degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or Communications; or a combination of Network Engineer Professional Certification and recent experience in voice and data communication may warrant equivalent recognition.
