Job Description: AS400 Senior COBOL Programmer GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Maintain and enhance applications that are already in production. Translate user requirements and system objectives into logical and practical system designs and programs. Formulates and defines system scope and objectives through gathering data, research and fact-finding to develop or modify complex information systems. Prepares detail specifications from which programs will be written after approval from Agency stakeholders. Competent to work on most phases of applications systems analysis and programming activities, including unit testing. Seeks to gain an understanding of the Department of Labor and Training business functions, which he/she supports. Responds to information requests from management, users, and peers. Provides time estimates for projects requested. Able to interact with the user community, gather requirements for enhancements and troubleshooting. Other duties as assigned. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: To perform system development and modification activities including system analysis, system design, and programming. To develop, disseminate and ensure adherence to systems design and programming standards; to advise and make recommendations to superiors on matters relating to systems development. To provide user support during user acceptance testing To do related work as required. Create queries and reports supporting user needs. Develop new and maintain existing interfaces for various 3rd party agencies. REQUIREMENTS: COBOL/DB2/CL/AS400 midrange/ experience required. Strong understanding of system development life cycle, Must be familiar with Microsoft Office products (Word, Teams, SharePoint) Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing within the IT environment and within the functional area. Time management skills, with the ability to multi-task and keep numerous projects on track. At least 5 years of COBOL/DB2 experience on AS400 platform EDUCATION: Such as may have been gained through graduation from a college of recognized standing with a specialization in Computer Science including or supplemented by successful completion of courses in the area of specialization; and Experience: Such as may have been gained through employment in a position engaged in systems development functions in the area of specialization.
