Job Description Engineer: SAN/IQ, RAID, SCSI, Troubleshoot Hitachi UnixLinux Server

Job Summary:



The Storage Engineer is responsible for the design, deployment and support of enterprise SAN (Storage Area Network), NAS (Network Attached Storage) and backup technologies, often working independently on complex projects and support tasks. This team is responsible for storage provisioning, storage network management (SAN and NAS), and back-ups for many diverse application systems and operating systems.





Responsibilities:



Ensure the integrity of the storage infrastructure on a day to day basis.
Performs scalability and capacity planning for the environments and make recommendations to support growth and improve performance.
Perform moderate-advanced administration and troubleshooting.
Responds promptly to internal and external questions/requests related to the environments. Provides estimates of effort, identifies requirements and implements solutions in response to the requests.
Coordinates and performs installations of software/hardware upgrades and fixes as needed.
Define and maintain Backup and Recovery policies, standards and procedures.
Participates in business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
Document new processes and maintain existing system documentation.
Other duties as assigned



Position Requirements:



Provides rotating on-call support 24x7 for the platforms.
Ability to work “on call” outside normal business hours





Minimum Qualifications:



3+ years of experience directly involved in the architecture, design, implementation, administration, and maintenance of storage area network equipment and technology in a 24x7, high availability environment
Knowledge of SAN technologies and concepts including fabric and host switches and routers, bus adapters, and interconnect hardware and cabling (Hitachi-HDS and IBM a plus)
Knowledge of fiber channel and SCSI protocols, RAID sets, disk drives, and data striping and mirroring options
Familiarity and experience with data replication, tape backup, data archiving, and disaster recovery concepts and procedures (TSM a plus)
Familiarity and experience with SAN performance monitoring, tuning, and hierarchical, multi-level data storage management in a 24x7, high availability (99.99% uptime) environment
Familiarity and experience with SAN problem troubleshooting, tracking and resolution
Familiarity and experience with managing, tracking, and updating SAN hardware microcode, firmware, and software patches
Knowledge of Windows and Unix servers, operating systems, and file systems (AS400 a plus)



Preferred Qualifications:


Bachelors degree, preferably in Information Systems, or equivalent working experience
Ability to work independently to resolve complex technical issues
Manage projects of medium-large scope
Strong interpersonal skills.
