Responsible for the daily efficient operation of database applications. Understands processes and objectives, responds to production issues, and initiates improvements. Ensures effective interfaces with other applications. Designs, codes, tests, and executes physical databases from logical designs. Redesigns, tunes, and reorganizes databases as business needs change. Monitors database performance. Performs routine checks and updates as necessary. Responsible for reliable back-up/recovery methodology and execution thereof. Performs troubleshooting of problems within databases. Researches issues and identifies possible solutions. Investigates requests for changes or access, analyzes business needs, and recommends solutions. Responsible for the successful completion of assigned projects, including creating detailed program documentation. Keeps management aware of progress and issues. Researches and analyzes updates to database systems. Determines appropriate install methods, installs and monitors, and may work with vendors for problem resolution and installation issues. May be responsible for mentoring and counseling junior staff. Takes an active role in directing and managing his/her own knowledge and experience base. Nature of work requires 24/7 availability.
