Description:

The Boston Police Departments Bureau of Intelligence and Analysis is hiring a SQL Server Database Developer to support multiple technology initiatives that drive the data analysis responsibilities of the Bureau and Department. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of full-time experience focused on the Microsoft SQL Server BI Suite, to include SSRS, SSAS and SSIS; strongly preferred that their most recent SQL experience was within the past 5 years. Candidate must have strong written and oral communications skills; the ability to work within a team environment; and the desire and ability to learn new techniques, procedures and applications. The candidate will engage in new development along with maintaining existing reporting systems. The position requires extensive experience developing SQL Server data reports, analysis cubes and business intelligence dashboards; as well as efficient project and task management skills.
Responsibilities
• This is a Microsoft SQL Server development role largely responsible for creating, maintaining, deploying and managing cubes and business intelligence reports for internal analytic teams and our law enforcement stakeholders. Candidates will work collaboratively with IT staff, analysts and stakeholders to within in a regulated environment.
• Responsible for understanding data, aggregating data, analyzing data, building cubes, generating SQL views and procedures, generating reports and dashboards, data governance, and performing quality assurance testing to ensure the data presented is correct.
• Develop, maintain and support SQL statements, stored procedures, views and SSIS packages.
• Maintain supporting documentation for the reports and the SQL infrastructure.
• Proactively engage on continuous improvement efforts for SSRS reports and their operation.
• Provide administrative support and fulfilment of service requests for reports and other SQL development, acting as the primary escalation point for the Bureau.
• Diagnose and resolve database-related issues (e.g., database outages, application performance, integrity, blocking and deadlocking issues, connectivity, security issues, etc.) • Monitor and tune database performance as well as optimize SQL queries.
• Mentor others on a wide range of database and analytic techniques.
Qualifications
• US Citizenship required
• Four-year degree (BA or BS) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• 5+ years of experience using Microsoft SQL Server BI Suite (primarily SSRS and SSAS).
• SQL Server 2012-2017 (emphasis on SQL 2017); proficiency in SSRS, SSAS, SSIS.
• Experience with gathering business requirements for reports and developing technology to meet those requirements in an agile environment.
• Experience facilitating user acceptance testing of developed reports.
• Experience diagnosing and resolving errors.
• Must have a firm grasp of BI implementation methodologies and must have in-depth experience with the Microsoft BI Stack (SQL Development, Power BI, SSRS, and SSAS).
• Working knowledge ETL technologies, including SSIS.
• Proven ability and initiative to learn and research new concepts, ideas, and technologies quickly.
• Strong analytical, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Must work well within a team-oriented environment.
• Ability to work well independently.
