Manage network resources and troubleshoot complex internetworking problems. Participate in network projects, including implementation and configuration of network components. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Provide network customer support on an 8x5 basis. Work week Fri to Tue, in order to provide weekend coverage. Manage and troubleshoot voice, data and video problem tickets assigned from the IT support desk. Perform pro-active monitoring of the network and respond to events from these systems by opening problem tickets with vendors and by alerting Netcom or other IT personnel of the problem, and beginning the troubleshooting process. Manage and keep up to date the tools used monitor, analyze, and manage network resources. Troubleshoot complex internetworking problems at the protocol level. Assist with capacity planning and resource management for existing network infrastructure. Work as a resource on projects, as assigned, to support data, voice and video systems Participate in multiple concurrent projects relating to expansion of existing network facilities and deployment of new network technologies. Configure and maintain internetworking hardware and software. Education and Related Experience: BS/BSCS & 3-5 years or MS/MSCS & 2-4 years Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field. Experience: Minimum 3 years relevant work experience is required. Must have ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and priorities. Familiarity with network technologies and standards, including specific experience with TCP/IP, DNS, Ethernet, and MPLS WAN protocols is required. Must have experience in operation of large TCP/IP networks. Must have some experience in administration of diverse computer operating systems, including UNIX/Linux, Windows, Macintosh. Detailed knowledge of TCP/IP protocol is required. Must be familiar with routing protocols such as EIGRP, BGP and OSPF. Expertise with configuration and management of common networking equipment, including Cisco routers, switches and gateways is required. Experience with Cisco Call Manager and Unity voicemail and UCCE systems is required. Operational experience with data and voice communication issues, including troubleshooting, working with telecom and equipment vendors, network performance monitoring and capacity planning is required. Must have excellent written and spoken interpersonal communication skills. May direct work activities of individuals or work groups. Contacts: High level of contact with internal customers to troubleshoot complex networking problems. Also meets frequently with outside vendors in the process of performing troubleshooting and analysis of problems.
