DES Network Team is in the middle of several core network upgrade projects. The contractor currently working on them has resigned, leaving the team in need of a replacement. The team only has two permanent staff and is unable to absorb that workload. This position performs highly technical and analytical work in serving as a specialist for networking, network planning, high-level troubleshooting, security, network system administration, and/or networking products and services. Work includes assisting with the enterprise network design, review of internal and external infrastructure requirements, technology evaluation, management of network related projects, testing and developing guidelines for implementation. The employee serves as a technical subject matter expert and performs elevated level troubleshooting of very technical and complex WAN/LAN systems. Position may consult with clients and/or vendors to determine future enterprise network systems requirements, their costs, feasibility, solutions to complex network operating problems and the configuration of network security systems. Desired Skills: • Comprehensive knowledge of telecommunications and network software/hardware, protocols, transport systems, and system requirements to assist in recommending solutions to resolve operational problems. • Comprehensive experience with computer networks or security technologies such as physical media, switching, routing and routed protocols, firewalls, gateways, VPNs, load balancers, etc • Progressive history of network certifications that could include Net+, CCNA, CCIE, AWS or Azure. • Progressive experience designing and configuring layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing (Nexus & Catalyst platforms) in a larger enterprise environment in support of daily business operational requirements. Perform system upgrades and maintenance on network equipment and management platforms. •Comprehensive experience with Cisco firewall platforms, Network Management Tools, VPN services, F5 Loadbalancers, IDS, IPS, integrated with third-party authentication services, security logging systems, VLAN security, IP telephony security and wireless networking security. The Technical Specialist is a senior level resource with specialized knowledge and experience in a specific technology. The Technical Specialist has an overall knowledge and understanding of application development and architecture that serves as a strong base for technical expertise in a specific product or program. Demonstrates expertise in conveying technical and functional concepts for a specific technical specialty. Identifies improvements to project standards to achieve high quality services/ products. Able to identify best practices and standards for the use of the product. Delivers support and design for industry specific applications that require integration with statewide systems or applications. Interacts with executive level business users or technical experts. May function as a niche technical SME. Advanced experience in the required technical subject matter.
