The primary purpose of this position is to provide specialized engineering and support of IT equipment and systems that underpin NCDOT IT projects. This position will specialize in service ownership of the Microsoft Office 365 product suite with duties that include: keeping informed of new features and changes to Office, creating new builds, leading version upgrade deployments, troubleshooting install issues, maintaining Office group policies, and serving as a consultation resource for other support techs. Assist with planning in the areas of technical requirements research & definition, software and hardware evaluation, system design, system build, system testing, system deployment and post-deployment stabilization. Activities involve all or any combination of the above and will require proficiency with core infrastructure elements like server hardware, operating systems, as well as third party vendor applications. The position will also be expected to maintain an understanding of system configurations in order to evaluate changes and forecast their impact on the environment. Further expectations include optimization of system performance, serve as third level support to troubleshoot incidents across a broad spectrum of systems, and also perform analysis and system load issues of a moderate technical nature. The position will be expected to; work effectively both independently and within a small team, interacting with other specialists, analysts, programmers, and customers to troubleshoot problems across multiple IT systems as well as complete assigned work on core infrastructure services. Assigned work will include the installation, and modification of hardware and software, testing, and documenting on a variety of platforms. This position is responsible for meeting deadlines, communicate well with technical peers as well as non-technical clients, and to adhere closely to NCDOT IT standard processes and procedures. Cross-training is the normal expectation.
Experience with migrating to Microsoft Office 365, creating and managing Office 365 builds and policies, troubleshooting Office 365 software issues.
Consultancy Skills. Ability to provide expertise and consultation to management representatives on a regular basis.
Planning and Organizing. Ability to plan task timelines and use of resources.
Ability to manage projects that have high impact changes to operating and peripheral systems or the implementation of emerging technologies.
Technical Knowledge. Ability to apply new releases of operating systems and associated software.
Technical Solution Development. Ability to demonstrate thorough knowledge of technologies and systems in place and to support those technologies.
Technical Support. Ability to provide technical consultation on projects.
