Daily activities include providing design and infrastructure support to production and development environments. The position requires strong written and oral communication and collaborating with the rest of the Server Operations team to achieve greater availability, reliability and maintainability of the underlying infrastructure. Essential Job Functions: The Solaris-Linux System Engineer will be part of a Server Operations team that is responsible for operating and maintaining multiple systems that range from Solaris, Linux, Windows physical and virtual servers. Duties include, but are not limited to: Perform system administration work in a manner that is consistent with standards and procedures. Responsible for installing, configuring, supporting/maintaining and administering Unix/Linux , physical and virtual environment. Provide second level technical support to administrators, engineers, service and applications owners supporting IT infrastructure solutions. Independently initiate and lead new server build projects (either physical or virtual). Proactive Server health reporting and monitoring as well as conducting normal patch management cycles and troubleshooting any issues that may arise as a result of a system/OS system failure. Handle support and help ticket requests along with break-fix activities. Required Knowledge, Abilities, Skills and experience essential to Job Functions: 5+ years prior work experience in (UNIX) Solaris and/or Linux Red Hat Administration. Requires strong knowledge around administering, building, capacity & performance. Responsible for Syslog & Log management and familiarity with Jumpstart Environment Management. Experience with UNIX/Linux core services and applications such as NFS, automount, DNS, DHCP, Samba, SendMail, Apache, NTP, sudo, SFTP, LDAP, and SSH. Knowledge in the deployment and maintenance of virtualization technologies (Solaris Zones, LDOMs, ESX, etc.) Knowledge of and ability to support single and multi-tier software stacks, including installation, configuration, tuning and troubleshooting. Knowledge of Application Server Websphere Application Server, JBOSS, and Oracle is a plus. Experience with server clustering (Sun Cluster, Veritas Cluster, and Red Hat Cluster) is a plus Proficiency in shell and/or Perl scripting a plus Goal oriented with high standards for quality and performance. Familiarity with the latest Datacenter standards and best practices. Ability to analyze customer needs and recommend solutions/products. Strong verbal and written communication skills and able to create technical documentation. Ability to respond to critical issues, manage critical trouble tickets and drive toward permanent resolutions. Industry certifications preferred but not required.
