Job Description Analyst: Layer-2 Protocols, Layer-3 Protocols, VOIP, Virtualization Cisco VoIP SANs LAN And W

Description:

The Client is seeking to fill a short term (approx. 6 month) assignment for a contract (network analyst) position. This person will be tasked with the completion of network intensive projects and will be involved in providing operational support of the existing network. The university is anticipating the installation of equipment to refresh/replace the existing network core and distribution layers. In addition to primary duties, the person in this position may be called upon to assist the implementation and/or migrate production data center equipment onto the new network infrastructure.

Network Analyst responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Provide technical network analysis and review of the existing campus LAN and WLAN infrastructure
• Review, recommend, plan, coordinate and perform upgrades of network switch software to the recommended level
• Analyze the current network switch infrastructure; design, coordinate and perform changes to streamline network management, monitoring, and reporting – specific project to include the implementation of an existing network management platform and documentation of implemented management practices
• Ensure backup of all network component configurations to ensure the ability to rapidly replace failed network equipment including documentation of implemented practices
• Update, streamline, and document baseline configurations for network switches
• Review network switch configurations to ensure proper uplink and access port configurations to support VoIP and QoS
• Provide ongoing operational support and transition knowledge of varying complexity to other networking staff and to client-facing support staff as needed for all network and telecommunication components
• Collaborate and communicate with contracted vendor to provide support of the network core and distribution layer refresh.
• Provide technical support, design and configuration of the existing wireless network infrastructure
• Provide review and support of the campus VoIP telephony system, ensure redundancy and restoration capabilities; develop documentation of implemented practices
• Create technical documentation and reference materials and provide informal training for other network staff
• Perform other network duties as assigned

Required Skills:


• Knowledge of core and distribution layer network infrastructures
• Knowledge of layer 2 and layer 3 network designs
• Knowledge of network security design and best practices
• An in-depth knowledge of VoIP infrastructures
• Virtualization (Server and Desktop)
• Higher education network design and support or implementation
• Cisco access layer component, installation and configuration
• Cisco VoIP installation and configuration
• Experience with LANs, VLANs, WLANs, TCP/IP, AAA, TACACS, NAT, Syslog, Network Access Control, Policy-based routing
• Knowledge of SANs; Server Platforms;
• Session initiation protocol (SIP); voice, data and unified communications; and programming techniques.
• Experience developing technical and non-technical solutions for supporting business process reengineering.
• Experience with medium scale projects crossing multiple functional areas.
• Comfortable with hands-on technical consultation roles and working with other network and IT staff
• Able to produce and review documents related to technical requirements, designs and implementation plans.
• Must have technical lead experience on small to medium IT infrastructure implementation projects.

Desired Skills:

• CCNA or equivalent experience.
• Experience with WANs, VPN, RADIUS, Netflow, Firewalls, ACLs, multiple routing protocols, Network Access Control, Policy-based routing
• Eight (8) years of experience as a Network Analyst or equivalent
