Tasks will include: · Creating datasets for reporting, modeling and/or analysis using SQL (Oracle, Teradata), · Organizing and analyzing data in Excel, · Producing and enhancing existing reports using SQL and Excel Basic Qualifications: · Candidate must have experience as the “go to person for numbers” and be able to go from raw data extraction to business insight · Required tech skills: SQL coding (expert, freehand coding) & Excel Required Experience (in order of importance): · Extracting datasets from multiple databases using SQL · Analyzing & interpreting datasets in Excel (includes use of Pivot Tables & charts) · Excellent communication skills & ability to work independently: most interactions with other Analytics team members and product business partners will be over phone · Running, enhancing and/or developing user friendly Excel reports · Developing financial models (not required) Additional Background: o Should be a quantitative analyst with intellectual curiosity, a business person with technical skills to roll up the sleeves and answer business questions by formulating ways to answer the question / hypothesis tests and direct interrogation of business data resident on Oracle or other SQL databases. o Experience building forecasts or other kinds of user driven models in Excel helpful. Firsthand knowledge of pivot tables as well as their limitations. They need to be able to prove that they can write basic analytical SQL (which in itself can get complicated) freehand w/o use of tools. o Typically the kinds of industries that have analogous large volumes of data would be financial services, telecom, possibly healthcare, retailers or any other where there are lots and lots of discrete & diverse transactions that could be measured & tied to individual customers. o In some ways, this is a classic “decision support” role. In this role, you will be working on a variety of both strategic and tactical yield management analyses and revenue optimization in general. Examples of initiatives you will analyze include re-pricing, bundled pricing, sweet-spot analysis, product feature changes, pricing structure and impact analysis. o Experience with applied data analysis on account or customer-level datasets with diverse and extensive transaction volume is required. Solid database skills used for financial analysis and forecasting are critical to this role.
